The Irish will host the Spartans on Saturday in the first bowl game of their new college football season.
In addition to the bowl game, Notre Dame will also host a bowl game at home against Georgia Tech, as well as a home game against Arkansas and home games against Florida State and Miami (Fla.) in the 2017 season.
The Irish and Michigan State have not played since January 9, 2018, when Notre Dame defeated the Spartans by a score of 33-0.
Michigan State beat Notre Dame 35-14 on Jan. 10, 2018.
The Spartans are 8-2 in bowl games under Mike Riley.
While Notre Dame has not yet announced the games that will be played, ESPN has reported that the game against Georgia is scheduled to be played in 2019 and the game in 2019 will be in Atlanta.
Last season, Notre Dames only bowl win came against the defending national champion Penn State on Jan 10, 2019.
A bowl game between Notre Dame and Michigan would be a big boost for the Irish and would help bolster their resume as a perennial national title contender.
Since the 2011 season, the Irish have won the most bowl games, with 20 in all.
Notre Dame is 4-0 against Michigan and 3-0 versus Penn State.
After defeating Michigan State, NotreDams next opponent will be Arizona State, which will be a home and home game.
The 2017 season has been the best for the Notre Dame football program.
The Fighting Irish are 6-2 and the defense ranks among the top 10 in the country, with the defense allowing only 2.1 yards per carry.
Notre Dams offense has ranked in the top 15 in scoring nine times, and the offense ranks third in the nation with 8,897 yards passing.
The 2017 schedule is very difficult for any team, but for Notre Dame, the challenge will be to remain undefeated and get into the top five in the AP poll and bowl games.
